The technical action of the player who receives the ball must be adjusted to the game situation that manifests itself at all times. The speed of execution of the possessor will facilitate the control of the game / ball of the team that owns it, greatly hindering the defensive action of the opposing team.

It is advisable, therefore, the game of the ball to 1 or 2 touches provided that:

  • The holder can do so at the execution level.
  • Colleagues make it possible.

On certain occasions the holder must determine the control of the ball to:

  • Perform a drive (if you have progression-free space and there is no optimal support in depth).
  • The time used in driving causes a fixation / tilting of the opponents towards their zone, a fact that will allow in the second play the existence of free spaces in the areas of other teammates.
  • Make a dribble in a situation of 1:1 (with exit space) when the opponent does not allow the pass. This action will cause a clear collective imbalance in the defensive action of the opponent, provided that once the dribble is made, he makes the "second touch / play" with the ball.
  • In these cases the game to two technical touches will be conditioned by the possibility of interspersing these two actions between the reception and the pass / center / finish.

Therefore we will talk about 2 "tactical" touches since we consider dribbling and driving as actions, when they are collectively correct, that do not distort or reduce the intended speed of execution.

In this way we will avoid causing in training (with the two technical touches), that players who are alone, with space for progression, have to play a partner (even being marked) instead of progressing / fixing, an aspect that will later manifest in the competition:

  • For example:the centre-back, alone, instead of progressing and causing the defender of a teammate to fix him and leave only the teammate (so that the center's pass will be much more effective), makes the pass directly to this marked partner, an action that can cause a possible loss of the ball.
